PARTNERS SPEAK OUT

March has arrived with a welcome bit of warmth and the promise of a busy spring schedule for the Boly:Welch team. Our employees are involved in professional and community organizations that represent the breadth and scope of our growing business and things are bustling!

Our first Community Connections event successfully brought together clients and four non-profits to discuss community stewardship and volunteerism. We thank all who attended and in particular Community Warehouse, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Oregon Humane Society and Johnson Creek Watershed. We’re planning for our next event – an April workshop focused on issues impacting women and girls in the metro area.

We’re thrilled to celebrate with friends and business associates our selection as number seven of the 100 Best Companies to Work for in Oregon! This is the eighth year that we have received this meaningful recognition. As business owners, it’s an award we treasure, in large part because this recognition is driven by employee responses to working at Boly:Welch.

Spring has arrived and we are happy to go along for the ride!

PRODUCTIVITY, LABOR COSTS AND WHAT IT MEANS…

The Labor Department reported March 4th that productivity jumped at an annual rate of 6.9 percent in the fourth quarter, even better than an initial estimate of 6.2 percent growth. The surge in productivity is much stronger than the 3.8 percent gain for all of 2009 and more than triple the 2 percent increase in 2008.

Few economists expect the surge in productivity to last — largely because there is a limit to how much more work the people who are still employed can do. For them, the hope is that as the economy continues on a path of slow recovery and their business begins picking up again, employers will begin to hire back some of the more than 8 million people they’ve laid off since the recession began.

IT'S ABOUT COMMUNITY

Last month we begin a series of community meetings designed to bring together the business and non profit communities. We love connecting – linking like-minded clients, candidates and community friends towards success and common goals.

As promised, each monthly newsletter will connect our business friends with organizations who are making a difference in the community – groups to keep your eye on as you consider how your team can make a difference. We’d like to introduce you to The Dougy Center:

THE DOUGY CENTER – SUPPORT IN A SAFE PLACE

The Dougy Center provides a safe place for children, teens, young adults and their families who are grieving a death to share their experiences. They do this through peer support groups, education, and training.

As the first center in the United States to provide peer support groups for those in grief, they have served over 20,000 children, teens and families since 1982. Their National Center provides support and training locally, nationally and internationally to individuals and organizations seeking to assist children in grief.

This amazing organization is supported solely through private support from individuals, foundations and companies, and receives no state or federal funding. They do not charge a fee for services.
